View Full Version : Characters
In this section we'll be presenting all of Gatekeeper's characters AND their character posters.
Character Development!
So how do we decide what the characters should be like? Do we simply throw a "wouldn't it be cool if…" on the table and start casting! Not really, no! Let me take you through our characters one by one and show you the huge and time consuming process behind them starting with the characters Captain Elisabeth Janeway and Android Andrew to illustrate different approaches.
Elisabeth Janeway
The Captain has always been the icon of each Star Trek show and so we've had some debate about it.
In this case the solution came naturally as the "Gatekeeper" film is a result of the question "What happened after "Voyager" and "Nemesis"?
We therefore started with Kathryn Janeway of "Voyager" and created a time line from this character and 16 generations into the future and 500 years after Captain Braxton of the "Relativity":

…and landed on a character we felt could hold her own and present an interesting story. Elisabeth was born - one of the brightest minds in Starfleet and one of the youngest human officers with the rank of Captain.
Her father (Arild Janeway) was Norwegian and her famous grandfather Jonathan Janeway (living in a same sex relationship with Harald Pedersen) was the architect of the biggest space station built by the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet. He inspired Elisabeth's great interest for designing smaller ships based on old designs (as her futuristic Spitfire demonstrates).
She was headed for a promising career within engineering when her grandfather was killed in his own home during her graduation. A part of her died with him. She changed her direction and specialized in tactical warfare, which eventually landed her the responsibility for the Gatekeeper team and the station which soon got its name from the team.
The character was given to Irene Brustad who created Trekkers Norway and made it one of the most successful Sci-Fi organizations in Scandinavia. (See photo)
Andrew
Andrew is an android pretty much like data but with a number of weapons integrated into his body!
He's body is not human based but Sorgalian, and as this is a new humanoid we had a debate about his looks.
We wanted him to look human, but yet alien, and decided to do this with skin texture, color and lenses only and made a number of sketches on how he could look - BUT, it was while shopping I stumbled over the texture that finally ended up as the Sorgalian look. In the fruit department I found a white Honeydew melon (Photo) that looked prefect as inspiration for Andrew.
The casting for Andrew was quite special as the android do a few hover board scenes in the movie - so why not get the best - the world champion in freestyle skateboard: Stefan Åkesson. (Photo) This has been a philosophy all through our casting. Bring in the best on each needed in the script area and teach them to act.

I can imagine MTC casting being off an open archicheture (If I got the right word) and easy to put in new ones as new actors is included. Have you tryed to aloud an steady increase in cast when you developed the script?
The original script is written before we started casting, with a few details changed after casting to fit the actors. Most of the latest additions is put within the last act of the movie which is why this part of the script is delayed. The longer it's delayed the better news - to put it that way! But I need to save something for my future articles! We'll post a preliminary 3rd act soon though. But first we'll post the rest of the 2nd act next week!
But to answer your question, Commander - rewriting to fit all our new actors is never a problem as long as the scene isn't shot, so we do welcome everyone with opened arms - we just can't make any promises as to major parts or parts against the celebrities (and there will be recasting of actors that doesn't work well enough in their given parts - but they will be given another part). BUT there WILL be a few competitions shortly were one can win a pretty good spot in the movie.
Looking through the Actors list I see I've got two Squad members already!
Robin Hiert
Hiert is one of the latest additions to the fan community with the Dutch fan series "Dark Armada" where he portrays Captain Alexander Richardson.
Hiert will also bring in co-actor Iris Janse for a smaller part in the movie.
Hiert will do the part of fighter pilot Lt. Garcia.
JT Tepnapa
Tepnapa is well known within the Trek community from "Hidden Frontier", "Odyssey" and "Phase II", as well as other independent films. Together with Bobby Rice he portrayed a gay couple, which by many has been viewed as kick in the direction of Paramount who has been strangely reluctant to include gay characters in Star Trek.
Tepnapa will do the part of fighter pilot Lt. Johnson
Two well established and might I say accomplished fan actors, how lucky am I!? ... oh the pressure just came to me..
And it's not like I've got myself a heavy scene already, world-class skater Åkesson and establishing one of the Gatekeepers.. At least the lines are easy enough, we'll rock that scene once we've made some practice runs off camera.
I'm really looking forward to this =D
hehe You're perfect for the part, so we look very much forward to it as well - AND you have lots of cool action scenes in the third act as well!

Ill hope I can do my part justice when its time for my shots. Ill do some practice with cos play in the mean time^^ J.
Supreme! Actually you are one of the actors I'm MOST satisfied with! You'll look amazing in the part! As for the acting itself we may have to work a bit with those of you that have no experience, but often these are the actors that are most believable. We have a limited amount of takes, and can even dub the sound afterwards. We will also change the sound of a few actors' voices to fit the characters.

*Shy* Well I think I got more talents behind the camera than in front off one but I do know a thing or two about acting, at least on a theorethical level but its a part I looks forward to and I can easily say its gonna be fun to have an opertunity to play a alien race. *No, youre not gonna play a Caitian, stupid brain*
The part you are about to play is perfect even for an unexperienced actor and will present a great visual. I'm not worried!
